For a beautiful web !!

Having spent a lot of time now on issues like the web standards followed by developers worldwide, in order that they effectively cater to a large audience all together, I dived deeper in search of answers to my questions viz.
  • handling webpage rendering to what extent? (basis - time and effectiveness)
  • what steps to follow to have a consistent webpage loading time; the factors playing important roles in the process, etc. (basis - time, again, but from the end user point of view)
  • using and letting use the page design patterns/some specific, very effective nuances which help you hit the bull's eye from a developer/designer's point of view; ( basis -  in general developer/designer community ethics)
and such ...

Found a few good reads, some tools helping you move in that direction among other things. I will share these readings and available tools here for all as and when I find time.

A Stopwatch - to measure the downloading time for webpage. It comes with some more important features that can be looked at the site.

A good answer to the popular question amongst web developers - "How do you answer the Internet Explorer 6 question?" - A Universal CSS ??

More to come!!

Updated pages for transliteration at CDAC Mumbai
santa
[info]sarvesh_nikumbh
Information about CDAC Mumbai's transliteration service is now available at www.cdacmumbai.in/xlit
Also, the editor is available at www.cdacmumbai.in/xlit/editor
It now permits free-flowing usage of various punctuation marks while writing. That simply means, you can now write a word with its punctuation following it and then hit a space to get it transliterated. Say Sarvesh" gets transliterated to सर्वेश" .

Transliteration service by CDAC Mumbai

You can have a look at our new transliteration service (currently supporting english-hindi transliteration) and give it a try here . We also have an Open Office extension for you which will be made available soon.

As you will know, it is under testing phase, not yet released on the web. Feel free to post your suggestions/observations  here or you could also mail them to me.

As of now, for the editor interface, we are NOT supporting browsers on Windows Vista yet. It should work with Windows XP/Linux using Firefox version 2.0 or higher. Also there are issues with IE version 7 and higher. Any one working on Windows XP + IE (versions 6 and higher), please do let me know the status. It would be of great help.

You can expect the editor to work well with hindi origin words. For example:

-(powered by xlit)

It is not expected currently to work similarly well for words typically originated from other languages like english, marathi etc., though it may for some.

Have a nice time transliterating ... !! :)

Of days meant to be especially special... !!
santa
[info]sarvesh_nikumbh
It's been very special this time for many reasons to smile and cheer.....

A surprise celebration arranged, at 00 hrs, by Office cum flat mates kicked off the starting clock ticks of Nov 11. It was my B'day. The first, away from my own family, but with a new family of CDACians. Very grateful to all of them. Enjoyed that completely!!

Remembering the phrase - ...coming a full circle, has now started making sense, though I did understand it earlier, it's now that I am experiencing it. And what I would like to point out is - though you complete the circle, you will always have shifted by some quantity from the exact point.Thats where it tends to be a spiral !! You may not notice it, but it always will.

One stark difference this time was that, unlike large no. of calls (to wish) that i usually receive from friends, this time it was multiples of them wishing together on a call. A nice switch over of sorts!! [:)]

What I always want to say is - All days can be special, if you want them to be !!
It's just a matter of choice !!  [ :D ]
